I have arrived

Well I am here in Khartoum. Jet lagged and thankful I got here with all of my luggage. When we were landing in Khartoum a dust storm was approaching and we just beat it. If not we may have had to land elsewhere. I've posed a picture of the inpending dust storm from the plan.
So far so good. I'm just settling into my apartment. Got to meet some of the other teachers at a dinner this evening but haven't seen much of the city yet. I  go to school tomorrow and shopping!
It is hot but because of the dust there was a breeze and a few raindrops so not as hot as it could be.
Ill write more when I'm a bit more rested=coherent!

Marissa--know that you were missed in our final class with Pearl Friday afternoon. Pearl had us symbolically pass a spool of string around after we each spoke, wrapping it around our wrist before we passed it on to the next person. When Tom got the spool, he started by honoring you and Sean, wrapping the string around his wrist for each of you.
So glad to hear you made it safely. Looking forward to hearing about the city and your school. Cool photo of the dust storm!

I half expect to see the face of "The Mummy" in that dust storm.

Marissa, Great job. I had a hard time getting myself, both physically and emotionally, five hours west to PA, so you are truly inspiring. We missed you Friday. Keep the blog going; I can wait to read more.

Marissa,

I am so intrigued by your pictures and narrative - what an amazing experience this is going to be for you. Thank you for setting up this blog so that I can catch a glimpse of your life in Khartoum. I am ready to set up a classroom partnerhship whenever you are - so good luck getting settled and let me know if it is possible for our students to communicate.
